The Stamford KIC IT Olympic Triathlon starts with the 0.9 mile swim taking place at Cummings Beach in Stamford. 

The two loop 24.8 mile bike course showcases the beauty of Stamford, through downtown and then a tour of the North Stamford back country to an exhilarating finish back at Cummings Beach. (PDF / Web)

This USAT-sanctioned Sprint Triathlon starts with the 0.5 mile swim taking place at Cummings Beach in Stamford. It will follow the same (but shorter) pattern of the Olympic Triathlon swim. 

The 15.6 mile bike course will feature the a mix of downtown Stamford and the beauty of back country Stamford too. (PDF / Web)

This Kids Triathlon is a fantastic opportunity for your child to participate in an enjoyable athletic event that promotes a healthy lifestyle, provides a chance to meet new friends and builds self-confidence. The event is perfect for experienced racers and first time triathletes alike. The courses and distances will be achievable for all athletes, and prizes will be given to top age group winners. Each child will receive a custom medal when they cross the finish line.  Click here for course map.

Frequently Asked Questions

Age Requirement
HMF requires participants must be 16 to participate in the swim portion of the event, at least 14 years of age to participate in the bike portion and at least 12 years of age to do the run portion as a team member. The Hartford Marathon Foundation offers USAT sanctioned duathlons and triathlons and follows the USAT’s rules for “age up” which calculates an athlete’s age based on December 31 in the year he/she was born.
USAT Membership
Athletes without a USAT membership will be required to purchase a one-day pass, available during Chronotrack registration, and also at packet pickup. 
Participate as an Individual
Participate as an individual triathlete and crush your very own personal challenge while supporting a great cause!
Participate as a Relay Team
Gather together a swimmer, biker and runner and compete as a relay team; each completing 1-2 of the event legs! Relay teams can be comprised of 2 or 3 members. Each team is responsible for ensuring all member’s registrations are complete. Team members exchange the timing chip inside the transition area. If you are looking for teammates, post on our Facebook page to find someone. 
How to Register as a Relay Team
Relay team captains must create their team before their relay member(s) can register. Or the captain can register all team members at time of team creation.
Aquabike Athletes
Aquabike athletes will complete the swim and the bike, but will not have to do the run. The series is designed to appeal to those athletes for whom running might be painful, or to injured athletes who still want to compete. 
First Responders
We do offer a race fee discount to First Responders, who will need to show work ID at packet pickup. 
Student Discount
We do offer students, up to the age of 22, a discount on their race fee.  Students will need to show school ID at packet pickup. 
Triathlon Club Cup Challenge
Is your triathlon club the best? When registering, reference your triathlon club (if your club is not listed, please list it). Triathlon club members from both the Olympic and Sprint races will count toward the Triathlon Club Cup.
Gear Information
Neoprene booties are considered part of a wetsuit and would be legal to wear anytime wetsuits are legal. Swim-socks/booties are legal at any temperature as long as they do not provide flotation.
Swim Protocol
We ask all swimmers (both relay and individuals) to get in a minimum a 10 minute warm up swim prior to the start of the race. This new protocol is intended to give you a proper warm up as well as acclimate your body to the water temperature.

All Tri-Club teams will be scored according to the following:

Points will be awarded in descending order from 1st – 5th place according to the individual’s overall finish in the respective gender and age group category.

1st Place – 6

2nd Place – 5

3rd Place – 4

4th Place – 3

5th Place – 2

½ point will be awarded to each finisher outside of 5th Place.

All team members must be registered as a team prior to race start to count in team scoring; no members can be added after the race.

Relay teams count as an individual and earn points based on their finish in the relay categories.

  • Top 3 overall male and female finishers
  • Top 3 male and female finishers in each age of the following age categories: 19 & Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 & 80+. Age Group will be calculated based on December 31, 2019 age, per USAT guidelines.
  • Top male and female finishers in the Aqua/Bike
  • Top 3 Clydesdale and Athena
    • Triathlon (men 220+ lbs) (women 165+ lbs)
    • 5K (men 200+ lbs) (women 150+ lbs)
  • Top Relay Team
  • Top Tri-Club Team (combined Olympic & Sprint participants)
  • Top Fundraiser (combined Olympic & Sprint participants)

Registration Deadlines
Online registration will close on Tuesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. After that date, there will be no additional online registration. There will be in-person registration at Packet Pick-up, Saturday and Sunday of the event weekend.
Cancellation, Refund and Inclement Weather Policy
We do not offer refunds or transfers for any reason including injuries, illness, schedule conflict, inclement weather, etc. Deferrals to the 2020 event may be allowed until 14 days prior to the event. The Race Director and/or USAT Official reserve the right to modify or cancel any or all portions of the triathlon if weather conditions are deemed to be unsafe. In addition, portions of the race may be cancelled or altered if water quality level, bike course safety and run conditions are deemed to be in any way unsafe on race day. In the event of cancellation or race course alteration, the Race Director and Navigators Stamford KIC IT Races will not be able to provide refunds.
